Professional Retouching & Compositing for Product Campaigns

This set of visuals for Argos showcases an extensive retouching and compositing project crafted to elevate everyday product imagery into punchy, campaign-ready content. Designed in collaboration with The&Partnership, the goal was to create clean, consistent, and engaging visuals that felt fresh and energetic while maintaining a sense of simplicity and clarity.

Each item — from home appliances and lighting to fitness gear and interior accessories — was photographed individually, often under varying lighting and studio setups. My role was to bring cohesion and polish to the final visuals through careful post-production. This meant not only balancing tone and contrast but also constructing believable, vibrant compositions using advanced Photoshop compositing techniques.

Key to the process was the integration of each product into a bespoke gradient background, which needed to feel both dynamic and uniform across the series. Lighting consistency was achieved by relighting products in post using painted highlights, shadow manipulation, and adjustment layers, ensuring that each object felt grounded and naturally lit within the scene. Drop shadows and reflections were built manually or enhanced to match the ambient conditions, creating a subtle but essential sense of realism and depth.

Precision masking and path work played a major role, especially for complex silhouettes like the open-frame lamps and textured surfaces like the green velvet sofa. Every edge was refined to ensure seamless integration. Colour correction was tailored individually per product — not just for accuracy, but to enhance desirability and visual appeal.

This project reflects the importance of craftsmanship in compositing. It’s a perfect example of how strong retouching can transform disparate elements into a coherent and high-impact visual series — one that communicates product variety while staying true to the Argos brand’s accessible, upbeat tone.
